Our Story

Pizzeria Mazzie is a modern pizzeria with roots in New York.

Jon, the founder, is a New York native and his wife and business partner Celina hails from Macau. Jon’s first job in 1986 was making pizza and he has come full circle after an initial career of cooking professionally, later as an executive managing well known global footwear brands while based in Asia, where he met Celina. They relocated from Hong Kong to Bangkok to open Pizzeria Mazzie in 2017 and immediately began receiving accolades for the excellent dough and inventive take on the pizzeria experience, passing over the unwritten rules of what was considered common for Pizzeria’s at the time, incorporating the European influence of excellent natural levain breads and small plates meant to be shared with good wine and close friends.

The natural levain dough is the primary focus of Pizzeria Mazzie along with small plates and fresh, seasonal dishes to share. Levain is a living, wild yeast made from mixing flour and water together and allowing it to ferment naturally. The dough is light with a crispy exterior, moist crumb and a chewy texture that is highly digestible due to the 100% natural, double fermentation process.

Mazzie uses only premium imported and fresh, local ingredients to craft pizza by hand that adheres to traditional bread making techniques. An always evolving eclectic wine list with natural wines and classics from interesting producers that match perfectly with the pizza, small plates and Portuguese influenced delicacies meant to be shared.

The pizzeria became recognized globally for the quality of pizza by being listed in the top 10 of the 50Top Pizza Asia awards since 2021, as well as being included in the World’s 50Top pizza at the annual event in Naples, Italy. Jon has also been recognized by his peers by being voted one of the World’s 100 best pizza makers in 2023. Of the more than 278,000 registered pizzerias in the world, Mazzie was ranked #52.
